At the end of the trip, we stopped in Tirane, Albania. The city seemed pretty cool and I wish I stayed there for more than a day.

Priene and Ephesus

The last few days we spent in Turkey we went to Priene and Ephesus. There, we explored the ancient Greek ruins. It was really amazing to explore ruins that are around 2.5k years old!

Samos, Greece

We left Ku?adas? for a day to go to Greece. The ferry ride was long and uneventful. When we got to Samos, we took a cab and enjoyed the beach for a few hours.

Fethiye, Turkey

We flew from Istanbul down to Dalamam and then drove our little rental to Fethiye. After relaxing on the beach for two days, we went do Ku?adas? and explored the surrounding area.

We took a Turkish Airlines flight out of Sarajevo to Istanbul. There, we spent four days exploring the city. The amount of history and number of attractions overwhelmed us. Istanbul provided us with so much culture and hospitality. It is one of the places we would definitely go back to.

Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

After fourteen years I finally came back to Sarajevo. It was quite strange, yet comforting to be back. It was nice to be back and explore the different places from my youth.

An hour in Mostar

We were running a bit late getting to Sarajevo, so we only had a very short time to hang out in Mostar. We barely had time to walk across the bridge and get back to our car.

Pocitelj, Bosnia and Herzegovina

We hired a driver to take us from Mlini to Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. On the way up, we stopped by Pocitelj which was quite a tourist trap.

Last few days in Croatia

During the last few days in Croatia we spent our time finishing up our collective work and hanging out in the evenings. We had a blast renting out a boat and going to Cavtat and then getting stuck in a huge thunderstorm. Below are some photos from the last few days.

Abandonment in Mlini

Mlini is an interesting town by itself. It has a thriving resort and a few small hotels on one side of the town. On the other side reside three abandoned hotels. These hotels were left after the Balkan wars and are used for military practice and as a hangout for the local kids. Around the town are even more abandoned vacation houses and BnBs. I took one afternoon to walk around and try to capture the essence of these abandoned buildings.

Given that there is not much to do in Mlini, every other day we would go to Dubrovnik to hang out and eat. Mon and I visited one of our favorite vegetarian restaurants, Nista, where we returned several times over the course of the week.

Upon completing my work in Frankfurt, I flew down to Dubrovnik, Croatia, to spend a week in Mlini. There, Mon was finishing up her last week of her abroad program, and I was finishing up some projects back home. During the first few days, I was was re-introduced to her classmates and we had a good time hanging out after we were done with our workloads.

Last day in Frankfurt, Germany

I took a seven hour ICE train from Linz, Austria back to Frankfurt, Germany. I spent the remainder of the week working, and on my last day in Frankfurt, I went to the Frankfurt Neutral History Museum. I had a marvelous time deciphering signs in German and taking pictures of the stuffed animals.

Given that I was so close to Austria, I took a train from Regensburg, Germany to see Mon in Linz. When I got there, I was surprised by the heat and lack of a smokeless environment. Nonetheless, I had a good time hanging out for a day.

After hanging out with Verena’s family over the weekend, we took a ICE train to Regensburg where she studies. Regensburg was such a little cute town that reminded me of Italian towns. We had a fun day of exploring, running, and taking pictures.

Nuernburg, Germany

I had a three day weekend and I took a train from Frankfurt to Nuernburg to see my friend Verena. Her parents let me crash at their place and we spent two days exporing Nuernburg, which was a quite nice change from Frankfurt.

Back in Frankfurt

After the weekend in Budapest, I came back to Germany to do some more work in Frankfurt. I had an opportunity to explore the older part of town with my co-worker. Anyway, through the course of the week I went through a terrible cold and then left on Friday for Nuernburg to see an old friend of mine.

This weekend I spent my time in Budapest with Mon. She was traveling with her study abroad program and I did not want to be all alone in Frankfurt for my birthday. Budapest was quite an interesting city. The way the mix of commercialism, tourism and local fashion crashed against the old post WW2 buildings was quite intense. It reminded me of Sarajevo a lot. Anyway, we had a great time exploring the city and visiting the touristy sites.

Before I start my vacation I’m spending a few weeks working abroad with my team. During the first week I got to explore Frankfurt am Main. I was able to use my German for the first time since high school, and surprisingly I was able to accomplish small tasks. My first week can only be described by good beer, and my jaw hitting the floor upon seeing jarred hot dogs.

Welcome to Percé

We finally made it to Percé. We spent a few days exploring the city and hanging out with the Canadian whales. After it was all said and done, we went back to Quebec City through the peninsula.
